You saw the story breaking. You bookmarked it, told yourself you'd write it up tonight, maybe tomorrow morning. Then a client needed something, the day blew up, and by the time you opened a blank doc it was Thursday. You checked the search results. Other sites had already covered it. Some of them were barely trying, thin rewrites with no real reporting, and they still got there first.

Here is the exact situation. A story breaks on a Monday morning. You see it in your feed. You tell yourself you will write it up tonight, or maybe tomorrow, because you have got client work due and the inbox is already a disaster. By Wednesday you finally sit down. And the traffic from that story? It went to the sites that published on Monday. Your version is late, and late does not get read.

I used to do it the hard way. Find a trending story on Perplexity. Drop the headline into ZimmWriter. Wait for the article. Edit it. Publish it. Repeat. I was proud of the system until I noticed the same thing every single time: by the time my article went live, everybody else had already written one.
